Plant evaluation studies

Biomass heating project cumulative cash flow graph

Plant evaluation studies are undertaken for the purpose of assessing the most appropriate plant renewal or alternative energy systems assessments. We recognize that the primary considerations for a client are capital cost, running cost and statutory obligations.

Renewable energy

In accordance with the Statutory Instrument SI 666.

A person who commissions the construction of a large new building shall ensure, before work commences on its construction, that due consideration has been given to the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of installing alternative energy systems in the proposed large building, and that the use of such systems has been taken into account, as far as practicable, in the design of that building. The alternative energy systems to be considered shall include:

  1. decentralised energy supply systems based on renewable energy,
  2. combined heat and power systems,
  3. district or block heating or cooling, if available,
  4. heat pumps

Noel Lawler Consulting Engineers can provide the appropriate studies and implement the use of renewable energy technologies on the basis of a client investment or an ESCo.

Improved plant efficiency

We help clients set realistic energy usage targets and recommend ways to improve energy performance. Energy targets are identified by compiling data drawn from analytical tools, computer models and Utility Energy Audits.

Grant applications and tax advice

Our Sustainability Engineers can identify Accelerated Capital Allowance (ECA) and grant applications for the funding of Alternative Energy Solutions (AES) which result in a benefit to the client’s wallet and the environment. Applicable (AES) technologies include Biomass Boiler Plant, CHP, Heat Pumps, Solar and Photo-Voltaic, Wind Turbines and Waste Heat Recovery Systems.
