Kilkenny Community Radio Relaunch

Kilkenny Community Radio is a local community based, volunteer radio station which promotes the aims and ideals of the community it serves. The station stripped back its hours in 2002 to broadcasting only part-time until March 2017. However now after almost a year of inactivity, Kilkenny Community Radio is again broadcasting 7 days a week.

Noel Lawler Consulting Engineers were delighted to be involved in the re-launching of Kilkenny Community Radio. Working as Mechanical and Electrical Consultants, NLCE staff sourced and hired Builders and Electricians to help in the revamp of the broadcasting building based on the outskirts of Kilkenny city.

A number of Fire and Upgrade Works were required in the building in order to make it fire compliant. NLCE staff designed new emergency lighting systems as well as fire alarm systems for the building. However, particular areas of the building required detailed examination including building partitions, floors to comply with building regulations, plasterboard on ceilings and a complete rewiring of electrical installations

This was a particularly interesting project for Noel Lawler Consulting Engineers having never completed works at a broadcasting centre before. There was a high level of interest among staff to be involved in the project. Electrical works, in particular, had to be completed in order to facilitate the re-launch of the station. This important element of the project was fast-tracked and completed in plenty of time to allow the re-launch of the community radio station.
