NLCE were commissioned by National University of Ireland, Galway to undertake the engineering consultant design of an extension to the Martin Ryan Institute. It is located on a high profile site adjacent to the existing Martin Ryan Institute building, which is near to both the University campus entrance and a protected canal. Numerous design options were explored by our team to ACCOMMODATE the budgetary restrictions, and also, to incorporate several brief requirements into the final design namely:  The inclusion of an 80-student undergraduate teaching LABORATORY,  a 165-seated tiered lecture hall, research LABORATORIES with associated write-up/study areas and a large scale 50 seat meeting room. The final design solution was a 1,620sq.m structure consisting of a long-span steel frame and composite steel beams with metal decking incorporated into the services zone.
